No Such Thing as Bad Weather

It was Alfred Wainwright who wrote that ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing’.  I am not sure that seasoned fell-walker had ever stayed on Lundy during a run of Atlantic storms when he made the observation, but I am prepared to concede there is something in the wisdom.  Particularly since I happen to be a woman who is the proud possessor of a pair of waterproof over-trousers.

I know that I have sung the praises of these trousers before, during my walk along Hadrian’s Wall, but I think another eulogy is due.  I cannot recommend them highly enough; even in the dampest conditions––and Lundy in July 2023 was damp––nothing gets past these trousers!

Since my Hadrian’s Wall walk, I have also added to my rambling kit a waterproof cover for my rucksack––surely an improvement on the plastic carrier bag, which I had fashioned to serve the purpose in the past?  Sadly, this has proved less of a success; where the plastic cover doesn’t fit perfectly, rain still manages to find its way through to the bag beneath.  Admittedly, it is more waterproof than my previous Heath Robinson construction although, strangely, not so satisfying.
