A brief venture away from my usual stamping grounds, but engaged in a familiar pursuit. Bending my arm. I am in Blind Jack’s pub in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, where I have found a quiet, comfy corner, which feels very much a home-from-home, similar to my traditional London haunt.

I am drinking a pint of Daily Bread, a 3.8% ABV bitter, brewed by Abbeydale. It has an inviting dark red hue, thick yeasty head, and a pleasant malty flavour.

It is hard not to find the Lord’s Prayer running through my head as I drink my pint. I am not sure that this is quite what Matthew had in mind when he wrote about ‘our daily bread’ (Matthew 6:11), but it is not a bad substitute.
Unfortunately, though, when it comes to ‘lead us not into temptation’, it is a bit late for that.
