A Non-Alcoholic Beer That’s Worth Drinking

I never thought I’d see the day.  The day I drunk a non-alcoholic beer.  And not just that.  Actually enjoyed drinking a non-alcoholic beer.

Having said that, the bar is not set very high.  Most non-alcoholic beer that I have ever drunk has been pants: synthetic; fizzy; tasteless; beer in name only.

However, one non-alcoholic beer (low-alcoholic, to be entirely accurate, since it is 0.4% ABV Ed.) which I find surprisingly drinkable is Sam’s Brown Ale, brewed by Samuel Smith’s Brewery.

A bottle of Sam's Brown Ale.

It has a good dark colour, a nice frothy head, and a decent malty flavour.  Drinking it, I can fool myself that I am drinking something like a Newkie Brown.  In fact, I begin to wonder what’s so special about this alcohol stuff in the first place?

I drain my glass; return to the bar for a second pint.  That in itself is a first.  Most non-alcoholic beers leave me vowing never to touch the stuff again.
